Small & Rural Backgrounder
Illinois’ small and rural hospitals are indispensable to their communities. They ensure access to care for rural residents and pump $16 million into the local economy every year. Nearly 98% of these hospitals have fewer than 150 beds and nearly 30% operate on negative or thin margins.
